What Rows AI does
Rows AI is the AI layer in the Rows spreadsheet, helping users import files, transform tables, create formulas and charts, run analysis, and enrich data.
Rows combines a browser spreadsheet with an AI Analyst, formula-level AI, integrations, data tables, document or image extraction, charts, and Python-backed analysis. It can build tables, clean and classify records, join data, calculate statistics, create models, and automate refreshes without moving every task to a separate notebook.
Free includes five AI tasks monthly. Plus is $8 per user monthly or $6 annually with 200 AI tasks, while Pro is $79 monthly plus $8 per user, or $59 plus $6 per user annually, with 1,000 tasks and faster automation. Enterprise uses custom limits. Taxes, API calls, enrichment allowances, and connected-account limits require review.
Rows says AI requests share limited spreadsheet context and are not used to train models for others; its privacy notice describes providers and potential retention. Limited samples can still yield wrong conclusions about an entire table. Avoid unnecessary personal data, secure integrations, inspect formulas and Python logic, test refreshes, and reconcile every automated report.
How Rows AI works
A user opens a Rows spreadsheet, imports files or connected data, and asks the AI Analyst to modify or analyze it. Rows shares selected context such as headers, samples, and summary statistics with configured models, then can write formulas, manipulate tables and charts, run Python-backed analysis, or create enrichment tasks. Users verify the workbook structure, formulas, refresh behavior, and source reconciliation.
How to set up Rows AI
Create a controlled workbook
Import a copy of representative data, document source systems and expected totals, and remove fields the analysis does not need.
Connect the minimum accounts
Authorize only required integrations, use read-only scopes where possible, and assign owners for credentials and refresh schedules.
Ask a precise AI task
Specify tables, columns, filters, dates, calculation rules, missing values, and the exact chart or output needed.
Audit workbook changes
Inspect formulas, generated Python, cell ranges, joins, data types, refresh cadence, row counts, and error handling.
Publish with safeguards
Protect sensitive ranges, restrict sharing and embeds, monitor task usage, preserve source snapshots, and require owner review.
Rows AI FAQs
Is Rows AI free?
Yes. The current Free plan includes five AI tasks per month plus limited imports, integrations, guests, and history.
What counts as an AI task?
An AI Analyst message or an AI-triggered table or chart action generally counts, and AI file processing can consume one or more tasks.
Which models does Rows use?
Rows says it uses a curated combination of OpenAI GPT, Llama, and other models that can change over time.
Is spreadsheet data used to train models?
Rows says data shared for AI features is not used to train models for others and that it sends limited context, but users should review the current privacy notice.
Can Rows AI replace formula review?
No. It can generate formulas and analysis, but users must verify references, types, joins, assumptions, refreshes, and totals.
