What Lokalise AI does
Lokalise combines translation management, integrations, workflows, terminology, translation memory, quality checks, and routed AI translation.
Lokalise is both a localization system of record and an AI orchestration layer. Product teams can synchronize software resources, designs, documents, websites, and other content through integrations or APIs; manage languages and branches; reuse translation memory; enforce a glossary and style guide; assign tasks; and export approved translations. Standard AI supports routine machine translation, while Pro AI adds richer context, provider routing, and Custom AI profiles for brand-sensitive work. This lets teams use different automation levels without moving strings among disconnected tools.
Context remains the difference between a plausible sentence and a usable localized product. String keys, screenshots, character limits, neighboring copy, product area, audience, tone, and previous approved translations should travel with each segment. Glossaries need grammatical and regional variants, and translation memory needs ownership so obsolete copy does not spread. AI output must be reviewed by native linguists for cultural meaning, inclusive language, claims, humor, legal requirements, and market convention, then tested in the interface for expansion, variables, pluralization, bidirectional text, input, and accessibility.
Every plan has a 14-day trial. Current annual-billing prices are Explorer $144 per month, Growth $375, Advanced from $999, and quote-based Enterprise. Standard AI is included, while annual Pro AI allowances rise by tier and additional capacity may affect cost. Lokalise says customer data is not used for model training and documents TLS to providers, but retention differs: it cites zero retention for Anthropic and 30 days for OpenAI abuse monitoring, with enterprise routing options. Customers should select providers according to confidentiality, verify EU routing or Bedrock needs, and confirm current terms rather than treating all AI routes as equivalent.
How Lokalise AI works
Lokalise imports strings and context from files, repositories, designs, or content systems, then reuses approved translation memory and glossary terms before routing new content through Standard or Pro AI. Workflow stages assign linguistic review, quality checks, and export back to the source system.
Import source content with context
Lokalise receives strings, files, designs, or connected content plus keys, screenshots, metadata, branches, and instructions. Project access and integration permissions bound confidential material.
Reuse language assets and select AI
The platform applies translation-memory matches, glossary and style guidance, then routes eligible content through Standard AI or Pro AI profiles and providers according to quality and risk.
Review meaning and product behavior
Native linguists correct terminology, grammar, tone, culture, claims, and context; automated QA catches structural issues; and product teams test variables, length, layout, direction, and accessibility.
Export through a controlled release
Approved translations synchronize back to the repository, design, or content system through workflows and branches. Teams monitor processed words, AI capacity, edit effort, provider route, retention, and defects.
How to set up Lokalise AI
Inventory content, locales, and risk
List source systems, file types, repositories, products, target variants, release cadence, confidential content, regulated claims, and which locales require professional review.
Import trusted language assets
Migrate current translation memory and glossary files, remove obsolete or low-quality matches, define brand style and do-not-translate rules, and assign linguistic owners.
Connect a controlled pilot flow
Sync one product area with screenshots and metadata, protect variables and markup, choose Standard or Pro AI based on content impact, and restrict project and integration permissions.
Design review and quality gates
Route translations through native linguistic review, automated QA, stakeholder approval, and in-context functional testing before the integration can export them to production.
Monitor capacity and provider handling
Track processed and Pro AI words, acceptance and edit distance, provider route, retention, failed syncs, glossary drift, and locale defects; expand only after quality evidence.
Lokalise AI FAQs
How much does Lokalise cost?
With annual billing, Explorer is $144 monthly, Growth $375, Advanced starts at $999, and Enterprise is custom. Included Pro AI capacity and features differ.
What is the difference between Standard and Pro AI?
Standard AI targets routine lower-impact translation. Pro AI uses richer context, smart provider routing, and eligible Custom AI profiles for brand-sensitive or customer-facing work.
Does Lokalise use translations for model training?
Lokalise says neither it nor its AI providers use customer translations to train models. Provider retention and routing still vary and should be reviewed.
Can Lokalise connect to development workflows?
Yes. It supports files, repositories, APIs, design and content integrations, branching, tasks, and workflows for continuous import and export of localization resources.
Does AI remove the need for native review?
No. Customer-facing, regulated, culturally sensitive, and high-impact content still needs native linguistic review plus testing in the final interface or document.
